Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization. From the ballot box to the classroom, the thousands of dedicated workers, organizers, leaders and members who make up the NAACP continue to fight for social justice for all Americans.

Preamble: The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, hereinafter referred to as the "NAACP or the Association" was founded on the beliefs embodied in the Constitution of the United States of America. We support democracy, dignity and freedom.
NAACP Vision Statement: The vision of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights and there is no racial hatred or racial discrimination.
NAACP Mission Statement:  The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.

On December 3, 2012 nearly sixty-five area residents reactivated our NAACP Amherst Area Branch.

With the mission of this historic organization in mind our Amherst Area Executive Board has chosen to focus on several key committees as outlined by the National NAACP. These include: 
Communication and Media 
Education
Fundraising
Housing
Legal Redress
Membership
Political Action

The Amherst Branch meets once a month, either the 4th Monday or 4th Thursday, in the Bangs Community Center, downtown Amherst.  Check our "2013 Monthly Branch Meeting Schedule" link above for dates.
